OBJETIVO: O objetivo deste trabalho é descrever a tecnologia CAD/CAM do sistema CEREC.
Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Indirect restorations are traditionally made in laboratories specialized in prosthetics. However, with the advancement of technologies and the use of software, such as the CAD/CAM system, the way of making them has been revolutionized. Developed more than 25 years ago, the CAD/CAM system was created with the aim of allowing the production of ceramic dental restorations on the same day, reducing the number of laboratory steps. Despite its advantages, the adoption of this concept in clinical practice still presents challenges, such as the high initial cost and the need for specialized training to operate the system. Among the advantages of using this technology are the reduction of discomfort for the patient, the acceleration of the process and the reduction in the need for physical space for storage. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this work is to describe the CAD/CAM technology of the CEREC system. METHODOLOGY: This is a literary review, with the survey carried out in sciELO, PUBMED and BVS with publications between the years 2004 and 2024. RESULTS: They demonstrated that restorations made with the CEREC system present high rates of success and long-term survival. term. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the CEREC system offers several advantages for the dental surgeon, highlighting the possibility of manufacturing fixed prostheses on the same day, without depending exclusively on the laboratory and eliminating the need for temporary restorations.
