Abstract: The transmissible venereal tumor is a neoplasm of round cells of uncertain origin, not involving any infectious agent in its etiology, which has been increasingly frequent in the daily routine of clinics. OBJECTIVES: Discuss the pathophysiological mechanism of the transmissible venereal tumor and report a case followed during the mandatory curricular internship. METHODOLOGY: Initially, the step-by-step of the case followed during the mandatory internship was reported and then a bibliographic review was carried out in databases, in search of secondary data on the subject. RESULTS: The most common lesions of the neoplasm and observed in the reported case include friable nodules, with the presence of bloody secretion, fetid odor, ulcerative potential. The diagnosis is based on the history and clinical examination of the animal, being confirmed by cytopathological and/or histopathological examination. CONCLUSION or FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The treatment is based on chemotherapy using vincristine sulfate, with significant tumor involution in the first application, in most cases. The best way to prevent the disease is responsible ownership and neutering.
