N: Umbilical hernia is the insinuation through the uninvolved umbilical ring, of organs and structures of the peritoneal cavity. Its origin can be genetic or acquired and leads to a reduction in the commercial value of the animals. It is identified from clinical examination and palpation of the region with the animal in a quadrupedal position. Treatment involves reducing the hernia content and reorganizing the defect in the abdominal wall. OBJECTIVES: to report the diagnosis and surgical intervention of a 15-day-old calf that had an umbilical hernia. METHODOLOGY: Given the anamnesis and clinical suspicion, a clinical examination was requested in order to confirm the suspicion of hernia in the umbilical region whose size was altered. RESULTS: Umbilical hernia was diagnosed, opting for surgical treatment of herniorrhaphy. DISCUSSION: The surgical intervention was performed by applying the lateral imbrication process, following the selected operative technique. The hernia was completely removed and the animal responded well to post-surgical treatment. The existence of this procedure corroborates the literature and points to the advantage of identifying and intervening in cases of herniorrhaphy. CONCLUSION: The evolution of this clinical case showed the ability of the bovine to respond positively to a complex situation and the effectiveness of the therapeutic protocol used.pt_BR
