Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The immediate implant is an evolution of the techniques first suggested by Branemark, for oral rehabilitation with implants. This technique has been widely used in oral rehabilitation, as it allows the implant to be installed in the alveolus immediately after tooth extraction. Therefore, it is not necessary to wait for the period of bone remodeling to install the implants. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this work is to present, through a literature review, the concept of immediate implantation, its indications, contraindications and the requirements for clinical success. METHODOLOGY: A bibliographic search was carried out in the MEDLINE, PUBMED, LILACS, SCIELO databases using the Decs descriptors: “Dental implants”; “Oral surgery”; “Oral rehabilitation”. Inclusion criteria involved articles published from 2007 to 2022, in English and Portuguese, which included pertinent information on the subject of implantation immediately after tooth extractions and the factors for clinical success. RESULTS: The immediate implant preserves the peri-implant architecture, thus favoring aesthetics and clinical time, as it reduces the interval of surgical procedures that mitigate the effects of alveolar resorption. CONCLUSION: The immediate implant clinical protocol has proven to be efficient, when well planned and indicated, as it is a technique that restores the health, aesthetics, function and well-being of the patient and has a high success rate of osseointegration.
