Relação da periodontite com doenças cardiovasculares: revisão de literatura

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation that develops from previously untreated gingivitis, when pathogens infiltrate the supporting tissues of the dental organ, and is considered a multifactorial disease. The body's immune response against this inflammation generates enzymes capable of bone remodeling and bone destruction. Releasing endotoxins and exotoxins able to enter the bloodstream due to the high vascularity of the oral tissue. OBJECTIVES: To investigate, based on the literature, to clarify whether periodontitis can result in heart disease. METHODOLOGY: review of articles to correlate evidence between heart disease and periodontitis. EXPECTED RESULTS: elucidate the relationship between periodontal disease and heart disease, and clarify the importance of good oral hygiene to the population and health professionals. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: awareness based on scientific studies of the importance of regular visits to the surgeon to always obtain good oral health and, consequently, systemic health.
