Causas e tratamento do abscesso fênix: revisão da literatura

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Flare-up disease is a rare but serious condition that can occur after endodontic treatment and is characterized by acute pain and inflammation of the periapical tissue. Flare-up treatment is essential to avoid complications and ensure patient recovery. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this work is to review the literature on the causes that lead to Phoenix Abscess and their respective treatments. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative review of the literature. Data collection was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (PUBMED), Latin American Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs), Google Scholar with articles in English and Portuguese from publications between years from 2013 to 2023. RESULTS: 26 articles were collected from which 12 were selected. In the present articles it was evidenced that the main causes of Phoenix Abscess are associated with professional error such as overinstrumentation and inappropriate disinfection of root canals, and extrusion of dendrites out of the apex. Some authors also report that the patient's immune system is a predisposing factor to the appearance of the abscess, and when it comes to sex and age, research shows low relevance. In relation to treatment, the research highlights the effectiveness of retreatment of the canals using appropriate techniques for re-preparation and disinfection of the root canal, and on the other hand, there is the option of periradicular surgery when indicated and in more complex cases. Post-treatment antibiotic therapy does not present significant conclusion studies to determine the effect, further in-depth research is needed in the area to present results. CONCLUSION: Endodontic treatment can cause several complications related to patient management, so care at the time of care as well as theoretical and practical knowledge are essential during treatment. Therefore, scientific knowledge about the causes and treatment of phoenix abscess is essential for dental practice and especially in the endodontic area, since the Dental Surgeon needs to be able to deal with this type of situation in his office and promote better patient comfort. restoring health to it.
