O uso da laserterapia no mioespasmo das desordens temporomandibulares

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: One of the symptoms present in temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is myospasm. Myospasm presents itself as a tonic involuntary muscle contraction usually with a short contraction duration, causing structural dysfunction in the stomatognathic system. In this sense, a very useful tool in the treatment of this disorder is the low intensity laser therapy. Used for more than 50 years in dentistry, this therapy has provided several beneficial effects to treat this symptomatology. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to carry out a literature review on "The use of laser therapy in myospasm of temporomandibular disorders". METHODOLOGY: A literature survey was carried out using the following terms: "TMD", "Laser therapy", "Myospasm", "Use of laser therapy in TMD", using the scielo and google academic platforms. RESULTS: Laser therapy showed satisfactory results in patients with TMD. CONCLUSION: Laser therapy proved to be an important strategic tool for treating the painful symptomatology of patients with myospasm in TMD.
